Sydney Magic Festival Volunteers 2014

About Being an AIMF Volunteer
The Australian International Magic Festival Runs in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth on an annual basis. The festival is run by magicians for magicians in an effort to highlight magic Australia-wide. AIMF will showcase some of Australia’s most talented magicians along with some international magicians, which we feel gives the community a unique opportunity to see some truly spectacular “once in a life time shows”! It goes without saying that our Volunteers are essential to the Festival. We recognise the time they devote to the Festival so we strive to provide benefits to them as a thank-you for their service. Benefits are provided in conjunction with the number of hours volunteered, and for the skills needed for the position held.
Volunteer Benefits
-
Free Priority Tickets – We the organisers put aside a number of tickets for each show earmarked for volunteers, VIPs and Media. Volunteers are rewarded with two free tickets to any show of their choice for every shift worked (NOTE: minimum requirement one weekday shift and one weekend shift - giving the volunteer a total of four tickets initially with another two free tickets for every shift after). Volunteers that sign up for five shifts or more will get their free tickets upgraded to Reserved VIP seating as a thank you from us.
-
Exclusive Festival Uniform: shirt and cap with logo for the festival you have worked.
-
Party: Ticket to the Staff and Volunteer Party held on the final night. Including cake, bubbly, a chance to mingle with some of your favourite magicians and a photograph with crew, which will be framed and sent to you as a reminder of your experience with the AIMF crew.
Age Requirements
The minimum age of employment can vary across Australia because it is governed by different State based legislative requirements. The AIMF uses these legislative guidelines for our volunteers. Information for each state is listed below. Please be sure to read this if you are under 18, as you WILL be asked to provide identification to us.
-
NSW - If you are applying for the Sydney Magic Festival please note: The minimum age (outside school hours) is 14 years of age for casual and part-time employees/volunteers. It is our policy that if you are 14 years of age that:
-
Your parent or guardian provides written consent for you to start work
-
You must be able to demonstrate during an interview that you have the ability to handle difficult situations and the skill to fulfil the required positions.
-
QLD – If you are applying for the Brisbane Magic Festival, QLD is governed by the Child Employment Act 2006. The Act requires employees who are under 16 years of age and have not yet finished Year 10, to provide parental consent to commence work. Volunteers under 16 may only work 12 hours during a school week (38 hours a week during school holidays), with each shift being a maximum of four hours Monday to Friday and eight hours Saturday and Sunday. All hours of work must be between 6am and 10pm.
-
WA - If you are applying for the Perth Magic Festival, the employment of children is governed by the Children and Community Services Act 2004 and the School Education Act 1999, which state that the minimum age of employment is 15 years of age. Employees/Volunteers who are under 15 years of age need to provide parental consent to commence work and may only work between 6am and 10pm if the work is outside of school hours. Legislation also requires compulsory attendance at school for children up to the year they turn 17.
